Cheesy Green Bean Casserole

Ingredients

3 cans (14.5 oz.) french green beans {*can substitute fresh, see note} rinsed and drained
2 cans (8 oz.) sliced mushrooms {*can substitute fresh, see note} rinsed and drained
4 tablespoons butter
1 cup diced onion
2 tablespoons chopped garlic
4 tablespoons flour
1 cup chicken broth
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1/2 – 3/4 teaspoons ground black pepper (to taste)
1/4 teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg
1 1/2 cups fried onions (I used French’s)
